Why Preflight exists

Every tool a trader needs before placing an order — in one screen, free, with no account.

Preflight started from a frustration that anyone who trades will recognise. Checking a single position took eight browser tabs: one for the chart, one for funding rates, one for liquidations, one for the economic calendar, one for news, one for a position size calculator, one for a portfolio tracker, and one more for whatever the first seven did not cover. Half of them demanded an email address. Several charged a monthly subscription for numbers the exchanges publish publicly and for free.

So this site was built as the page those eight tabs should have been.

What we actually do

Preflight is a workspace made of movable panels. You open only what you need, arrange it how you like, and it stays that way when you come back. Market data comes straight from the exchanges and public data providers. The calculators run in your browser. The journal, watchlist, portfolio and notes are stored on your own device, never on a server we control.

The core idea is small but it changes everything: the value is not the data, it is having it in one place before you commit money. Nobody loses an account because they could not find the price of Bitcoin. Accounts are lost on sizing, leverage, and entering trades without a plan. Preflight is built around that moment.

Why so much of it is free

Several of the panels here replace features that other platforms sell by subscription — live liquidations, open interest, positioning ratios, funding rates. We are not undercutting anyone. Those companies do not own that data either. Exchanges publish it openly, without charge and without an API key, to anyone who asks. What subscription services sell is the packaging.

We took the view that a trader with a hundred dollars deserves the same information as one with a hundred thousand. So we read the same public sources directly and pass them on, unwrapped and free.

How the site is paid for

Preflight is funded in two honest ways: advertising slots, and voluntary tips from people who find it useful. There is no premium tier, no locked panel, and no feature that appears only after you pay. If hosting ever costs more than the site brings in, the answer will be a smaller server, not a paywall.

What we will never do

Who is behind it

Preflight is an independent project run by a single developer, not a company or a fund. That is a limitation and a strength. The limitation is obvious: there is no support desk and no team on call. The strength is that no investor decides which features go behind a paywall.

Corrections, bugs and feature requests are read personally. If a number here looks wrong, tell us — accuracy matters more to this project than adding another panel. You can reach us through the contact page.

Our limits, stated plainly

Some feeds are geographically restricted by the exchanges that publish them, so a panel may show a polite message instead of data on some networks. Local storage means your notes live on one browser on one device, so clearing browser data clears them. And nothing here is a substitute for your own research. We would rather say these things upfront than have you discover them at a bad moment.
